I'm posting a song a day from the Rise Up Singing songbook, which you may or may not know. It's a pretty invaluable resource for song leaders, and useful for anyone who likes to sing in groups. The book doesn't include the melodies to the songs, just the lyrics and some chords, so I’m trying hard to find the tunes I don’t know, learn them, and post them on YouTube for anyone to learn. That’s where these videos are hosted; the blog is just pretty packaging.

Be Kind To Your Parents
Words and music by Harold Rome
Rise Up Singing chapter: Home & Family, p.107
D - A7 - / - - - D / 1st / A7 - D -
G - D - / A E A EmA / D - A7 -
A7 - D - / G - Gm A7 D -
This is low for a lot of people to sing in, so Rise Up Singing recommends that you use a capo to raise the key. I agree. Or you could transpose. I did it in G:
G - D7 - / - - - G / 1st / D7 - G -
C - G - / D A D AmD / G - D7 -
D7 - G - / C - Cm D7 G -
I know this song from Eric Nagler, who is an awesome kids' singer in Canada. He's doing more adult music/storytelling performances these days and relationship counseling, which is what he was trained in before becoming a performer.
I'm enjoying the shift to family songs. My Mom used to sing this one. I was curious and did look it up, so FYI: Eric Nagler came to Canada in 1968 as a conscientious objector to war, he's still performing, but has also returned to his original calling in counseling and mediation. thanks for the songs, matthew.
